This refresher course is designed for mining supervisors who already hold G1, G8, and G9 (formerly S1, S2, S3) qualifications and need to renew their supervisory competencies to maintain current certification and ensure ongoing compliance with mining industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.

This comprehensive refresher program updates and reinforces the essential supervisory skills required for effective leadership in mining operations across the mining, drilling and civil infrastructure industries. The course covers critical competencies including advanced communication strategies, systematic risk management implementation, and thorough safety investigation procedures that are fundamental to successful mining supervision and maintaining safe work environments.

The refresher course includes the following units:

RIICOM301E Communicate information – Refreshing skills in planning, preparing, and conducting communication via multiple methods to ensure work activities are clearly understood by operational teams, supervisory staff, and team leaders

RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes – Updating competencies in applying comprehensive risk management processes, including risk assessment procedures for employers, line managers, supervisors, safety representatives, and employees within mining operations

RIIWHS301E Conduct safety and health investigations – Renewing skills in conducting thorough work-related health and safety investigations following workplace incidents, contributing to continuous workplace safety improvement

As a refresher program, this course ensures mining supervisors maintain current knowledge of evolving industry standards, regulatory updates, and best practices essential for safe and effective mining operations. Participants will reinforce their understanding of supervisory responsibilities while staying up-to-date with contemporary mining safety management approaches.

Outcomes

Upon successfully completing the course, participants are awarded with a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

Entry Requirements

  • To be eligible for this refresher course, we require:
    1. A clear copy of your photo identification or Drivers Licence;
    2. A previous Statement of Attainment issued by an
    3. RTO that is less than 5 years old or lists RIICOM301D/RIICOM301E, RIIRIS301D/RIIRIS301E, RIIWHS301D/RIIWHS301E.Must be at least 15 years of age
    • Please note wallet cards will not be accepted.
    • You can obtain a VET Transcript from your USI student portal if you do not have access to your current Statement of Attainment. (Forgot your USI? / Unique Student Identifier)

    To proceed with this course, students will be required to:

    • Pass a language, literacy, and numeracy assessment (LLN)

    If the student is required to complete the full course as they do not meet the refresher requirements, an additional assessment fee will apply for the practical training and assessment component which can be delivered at our training facility.

This course is delivered via online, self-paced learning. 

Credit Transfer/ RPL

If you have completed some of this course before or you have completed some units that appear in this course or you have good experience in this type of work, then you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer. You don’t have to take up this option but it’s available upon request. Evidence will be required.
